Transforming communities through targeted, data-driven interventions.
Community Reforestation for Environmental Restoration, Climate Resilience & Sustainable Livelihoods
Residents of Machatoum reported that prolonged tree cutting had significantly changed their local environment, including the loss of vegetation, shade and trees traditionally used for food and other community needs. The loss of ancestral, culturally significant and landmark trees has also affected the community's natural and cultural landscape. Residents described increasing exposure to heat and sunlight, soil degradation and erosion, greater vulnerability of agricultural land and crops, and the displacement of wildlife from areas where trees had traditionally provided habitat and shelter.
Following community consultations and a needs assessment, GI4C supported the community to prioritize reforestation as a practical response. GI4C launched Operation 20K Trees, targeting the planting and establishment of 20,000 trees to contribute to environmental restoration, biodiversity, community resilience and future livelihood opportunities.
GI4C serves as the initiator, funder and implementer, leading community engagement, needs assessment, planning, tree planting, documentation and ongoing monitoring.
Support for Vulnerable Families Widows, Elderly, and Those Left Behind
In the quiet corners of Koupa Matapit, Ntamkene, and Machatoum communities, there are faces etched with silent suffering. Widows who lost their husbands too soon, now left alone to raise children with no means to feed them. Elderly men and women who once contributed to their communities, now abandoned by family members, unable to care for themselves. Many go days without proper meals. Their greatest pain is not just hungerit's the crushing weight of loneliness, the humiliation of asking for help, and the despair of feeling forgotten by the world.
These are not statistics. These are mothers, fathers, grandparentspeople who lived full lives before circumstance stripped away their dignity. They face not only food insecurity but profound social isolation and emotional hardship that few can truly understand.
GI4C provided essential food items and clothing while creating time and space to listen, share stories, offer comforting words, laughter and encouragement. Through conversation, music and dance, we sought to remind people facing loss, loneliness and hardship that they are seen, valued and not forgotten. For a few hours, they were not defined by their vulnerability, they were simply people sharing food, stories, love and human connection.
GI4C serves as initiator, funder, organizer, and implementerworking directly with communities and local authorities to reach those who need it most.
Empowering Community-Based Organizations with Data-Driven Capacity
Many community-based organizations (CBOs) across Cameroon lack reliable, organization-owned systems for managing data, monitoring results and reporting. Some depend on project-specific digital platforms or tools created and controlled by external partners; when those projects end, organizations may lose access to their data, tools, workflows and institutional knowledge. Others have no dedicated data or reporting systems and rely on paper forms, manual registers or basic counts to track activities, while some reporting may be based on incomplete records or informal recollection. These practices make it difficult to maintain accurate records, analyze results over time, demonstrate achievements, produce quality reports, support fundraising and use evidence for organizational decision-making.
GI4C plans to pilot an institutional data and reporting systems strengthening initiative with 10 CBOs across the Centre, Littoral and South Regions, helping them establish or strengthen organization-owned data, M&E and reporting systems. Lessons from the pilot will inform future scale-up.
From Community Ideas to Sustainable Solutions
Across communities, young people are developing ideas that could address challenges in health, agriculture, livelihoods, technology, climate resilience, environmental sustainability and other areas of community development. Yet many promising ideas do not progress beyond the concept stage because young innovators lack access to mentorship, technical expertise, networks, early-stage resources and opportunities to test their solutions. At the same time, communities continue to face challenges for which locally developed solutions could offer practical and sustainable responses.
GI4C is developing a youth innovation and investment initiative designed to identify, develop and connect promising youth-led solutions with the support and resources needed to move from ideas to implementation. Through mentorship, technical assistance, innovation challenges, strategic partnerships, resource mobilisation and, subject to available funding, catalytic investment, the initiative will support selected young innovators to develop and test solutions responding to real community needs.
Discover β Develop β Validate β Invest β Sustain β Scale
GI4C will focus not simply on distributing funding, but on helping innovators build solutions that demonstrate relevance, feasibility, measurable impact and pathways towards sustainability. GI4C seeks to mobilise and facilitate access to catalytic investment and other resources for promising youth-led solutions.
