Turning community needs and vulnerabilities into coordinated action and resilience

Humanitarian, Human Capital & Livelihoods

GI4C works with communities and local actors to identify and understand humanitarian needs, vulnerabilities, risks and opportunities, and to translate this intelligence into practical assistance, targeted interventions and longer-term solutions. We mobilize and connect people, resources, services and systems to help address immediate needs while strengthening community resilience and the capacity of local systems to respond.

What we do

We assess needs, provide assistance, implement community-based interventions and strengthen local capacities and systems to respond to humanitarian and development challenges. Our work includes community needs assessments, vulnerability and risk mapping, humanitarian intelligence, food security and assistance, livelihood strengthening, skills and human capital development, community preparedness, referrals, stakeholder coordination and other targeted interventions based on identified community priorities.

Why it matters

Humanitarian and development challenges are often interconnected. Food insecurity, economic vulnerability, limited skills, displacement, environmental pressures and inadequate access to essential services can reinforce one another, leaving people and communities increasingly vulnerable. Identifying these challenges is only the first step. Communities need practical assistance, appropriate services, opportunities, resources and stronger systems that can address immediate needs while reducing the factors that contribute to persistent vulnerability. GI4C therefore combines community intelligence with direct assistance, programme implementation, capacity strengthening and stakeholder action to help address identified needs and create conditions for greater resilience.

From intelligence to resilience and stronger systems

We turn community intelligence into practical action, identifying who needs support, where vulnerabilities are greatest, what gaps exist and what response is most appropriate. Depending on the context, GI4C may directly provide assistance, implement community-based interventions, strengthen livelihoods and skills, facilitate access to services, mobilize resources and partners, or support other actors to respond to identified needs.

At the same time, we work to strengthen the local capacities, organizations, services and systems that communities depend on, so that responses are not limited to addressing today's needs but also contribute to greater preparedness, resilience and sustainable change. The result is a combination of immediate support and longer-term systems strengthening, helping people meet urgent needs while enabling communities and local systems to become better able to withstand, adapt to and recover from future challenges.
